Treesilience
Rebuilding and Sustaining a Resilient Tree Canopy Where It's Needed Most
about treesilience initiative
TREESILIENCE is a community-centered program from TreesLouisville rooted in the belief that everyone deserves the benefits of trees, no matter their ZIP code. Trees cool our neighborhoods, clean our air, support our health, and bring people together — and access to those benefits should be shared by all.
Through Treesilience, homeowners in neighborhoods with the lowest canopy are connected to resources to check the health of their trees and take action when needed — whether that means maintaining mature trees or safely removing diseased, dying, or high-risk ones. Participation is FREE, thanks to generous sponsors and donors!
Currently available to residents in the
Parkland and
California
Neighborhoods, Treesilience focuses on communities with 30% tree canopy or less, compared to the citywide average of about 39% — a gap that contributes to hotter streets and fewer health and environmental benefits for residents.
Each Treesilience cohort is a 2-year commitment. New neighborhoods will be added annually as funding allows.
turning tree loss into growth
TREESILIENCE offers Maintenance Care — pruning and vine removal — for healthy, mature trees still bringing value to our urban forest, and Safe Removals for trees that are diseased, dying, or high-risk.
When trees are lost to storms, development, or simply age, it's up to us to keep the urban forest thriving by planting new ones in their place. This idea is at the heart of Treesilience and that's why
🌳Every Tree Removed Is Replaced
With 2 Young, Healthy Trees!🌳
Our Certified Arborists collaborate with residents to choose the right species and ideal locations for new plantings.
TreesLouisville plants the new trees, and residents receive the tools and guidance needed to care for them as they grow — with ongoing support available if needed.
Treesilience Qualifications (2026 Cohort)
01
You're a Homeowner
This program is not currently available for rental properties.
02
Your Neighborhood is Eligible
Residents in the 2026 cohort must live in the Parkland or California Neighborhood in Louisville, KY.
03
Your Tree(s) Qualify
You believe at least 1 tree on your property
• Is a mature (above roof level) tree that needs expert pruning or
• Is diseased, dead, dying or poses a high safety risk to people/property and needs to be safely removed.
04
You'll Help New Trees Thrive!
Tree care and replacements are provided at no cost. Because young trees need care to survive, participants are asked to help with watering — we provide tools & guidance, and are here to help if challenges come up.
🚫We remove with purpose🚫
Treesilience does not remove trees for aesthetic reasons — only trees that are diseased, dead, dying, or pose a safety risk as determined by a TRAQ Certified Arborist are considered.
Next Up! Treeconomy
: Our 2-5 Year Vision
"TREE•CONOMY"
Treesilience is the first step toward a stronger, more inclusive urban forest.
The next step is the Treeconomy — a closed-loop, zero-waste system that transforms fallen and removed trees into value-added products such as garden beds, art, furniture, soil enrichers, and more — turning loss into opportunity.
This sustainable approach helps:
- Offset the cost of tree pruning, removals, and new plantings by using profits to pay for tree services
- Create green career exposure and opportunities in historically excluded communities
- Reduce waste while keeping resources local and in use
Together, Treesilience to Treeconomy will ensure that every tree continues to support Louisville’s urban forest — long after it comes down!🌳
