Big Tree Walk in Old Louisville

A one mile Walk to see Old Louisville's Biggest and Coolest Trees.
Lasts approximately one hour.

From Acorn to Oak Tree
Hosted by Wysor Ecological Services LLC
Location: Black Mudd Park, 1708 Rangeland Rd, Louisville, KY 40219 (Meet at the baketball courts)
Time:10 a.m.
- Learn how to time collection of acorns and distinguish between fall down white oak species, and spring germinated red oak species.
- Storage techniques, for indoor refrigeration or outdoor cold stratification, protection against squirrel predation on thick Tupperware, or exploiting weaknesses in hardware cloth.
- Advice for direct sowing in Fall and Spring. How to choose old specimens adapted to climactic extremes, heat domes and polar vortexes -record highs and lows.
- How to protect against deer rub and rabbit herbivory
- First year air pruned Louisville ecotype oak seedlings will be available for purchase.

Big Tree Walk in Wyandotte

A 2 mile walk through the Wyandotte Neighborhood by the Churchill Downs Backside. Wyandotte has the highest concentration of Giant Oaks in Louisville. Let's go check them out!
